Xabi Alonso has officially announced that he will remain at Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming season.

Courted by various clubs, Xabi Alonso turned down Liverpool and Bayern Munich. But he also turned down… PSG.

According to information from BILD, the Parisian club had made significant efforts to convince Xabi Alonso to sign last summer. PSG’s advances were categorically rejected by Alonso, who preferred to remain loyal to his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen. PSG then turned to Luis Enrique after the refusal of their compatriot.

On Friday, Alonso explained his choice. “I had a meeting with the team and informed them that I will continue at the club. After many discussions about my future, I took advantage of this break to reflect and make my decision. This is the perfect place for me to develop as a coach,” assured the Spaniard in a press conference.

Tied to Bayer until June 2026, Xabi Alonso does, however, have a release clause set at €15 million in 2025.
