Rayan Cherki was close to joining PSG, but according to L’Equipe, a mix-up at Lyon allowed Dortmund to take the lead.

Rayan Cherki was almost set to join PSG. However, the situation has completely reversed. According to L’Equipe, a €15 million deal was agreed upon between the club and Lyon. But everything quickly changed: the 20-year-old attacking midfielder is now expected to sign with Borussia Dortmund. “Nothing is signed, but the deal is now hardly in doubt,” explains the sports daily.

Lyon wanted to quickly finalize the deal as Cherki’s contract expires in June 2025. But what happened with PSG? “The negotiations stalled over Cherki’s interest in his transfer, which was stipulated in his contract and which the Lyon club had neglected to include in the discussions.”

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund took advantage of the situation by proposing a completely different deal: trusting Cherki in the long term, much like they did with Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Ousmane Dembélé, and Jadon Sancho. These arguments hit the mark. The deal between OL and Dortmund would be the same in terms of the transfer amount but with a lower salary.

On the other hand, PSG did not appreciate this turn of events at all and blames the player’s entourage, now managed by Fayza Lamari, Kylian Mbappé’s mother. This development does not bode well for relations between PSG and the Mbappé camp.
