Kylian Mbappé was determined to leave PSG at any cost. In 2022, according to L’Équipe, he had agreed to join Liverpool.

Although he eventually left in 2024, the plan to depart dates back much further. After a failed move to Real Madrid in 2021 and being disappointed with the direction of PSG’s project, Mbappé had accepted an offer from Liverpool.

Absent from the first day of Ligue 1 2022/2023, officially due to injury, the forward had actually requested not to play in order to clarify his situation, which was in conflict with the club’s management.

PSG held firm

Liverpool even put €200 million on the table and offered a short-term contract, allowing Mbappé to join Real Madrid a few months later. However, PSG, through their then sporting director Antero Henrique, categorically refused.
