PSG is strongly considering a move for Frenkie de Jong next summer. But the rumor of a departure does not sit well with the player.

Paris Saint-Germain is looking to strengthen next season. The club has its sights set on FC Barcelona: Frenkie de Jong is on their radar. The Catalan daily Sport confirms this information.

Frenkie De Jong is under contract with Barça until June 2026. However, he appears less fulfilled at the Catalan club and is hesitant to reduce his salary to extend his contract.

With the names of Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle also mentioned, the former Ajax prodigy represents a recruitment option for Paris Saint-Germain. PSG is reportedly ready to offer €60 million to FC Barcelona, which is in dire need of money, to secure the player’s transfer as early as this summer.

De Jong angry about the rumors

On his part, Frenkie de Jong has reacted to the rumors. “Lately, I’m a bit angry about what the press is writing. Things that come out are not true. Aren’t you ashamed of what you publish? (…) I don’t understand why they say things that are lies. It irritates me.”

“I think what you need to change is what you do with many players and coaches, writing things that are not true (…) The squad consists of several people. Sometimes, I hear that I’m not at the level of Barça. I think the press should change and stop writing lies about me (…) I consider the club as my teammates, the staff, I enjoy being here a lot. The press sometimes criticizes my level, that’s okay because everyone can have their opinion. But I don’t accept lies.”

“It’s a lot of smoke, a lot of lies, that I’m asking for around 40 million euros… The truth is that it’s far from reality. I won’t give numbers, but they’ve made up a story that’s not true. I’m very happy at Barça. It’s the club of my dreams. I hope to continue playing for Barça for many years.”
