Xavi, the head coach of FC Barcelona, has decided to step down from the Catalan club at the end of the season. The players reportedly wish to see Luis Enrique as his replacement.

Xavi’s departure comes after a defeat against Villarreal (3-5) in La Liga. Xavi hopes to breathe new life into Barcelona by initiating a new cycle. The Catalan club is currently eliminated from the Copa del Rey, qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, and holds the 3rd position in the league, trailing the leader, Real Madrid, by 10 points.

“Before you ask me the relevant questions, I want to announce that I will not continue coaching Barça after June 30. We have discussed it with Laporta and with the sports management. As a Culé, I believe the club needs a change in dynamics.”

“As a Culé, thinking about the club and the players, I think they will be liberated and calmer. As a club man, I believe the best thing is to leave on June 30.”

“That being said, I will give everything I have for the remaining four months. I believe we can have a good season, and I hope the dynamics will change,” said Xavi.

According to the Spanish press, the dressing room wants… Luis Enrique, the current PSG coach. While several names are circulating to replace Xavi at FC Barcelona (Jürgen Klopp, Thiago Motta, Sergio Conceiçao, Imanol Alguacil), Sport claims that the current Paris Saint-Germain coach would be the preferred choice of Barcelona’s players for the next season.

However, the Catalan newspaper argues that Luis Enrique’s return to Catalonia would be almost impossible, as PSG is unlikely to let go of their coach.
