PSG’s failure in Champion’s League: “I’m not a magician”, Mbappé claims

Kylian Mbappé

In an interview with France Football, Kylian Mbappé discusses the failure of PSG in the UEFA Champions League last season.

Who is responsible? Everyone, but primarily the club. According to Kylian Mbappé, if PSG fails to succeed in the Champions League, it is not necessarily due to the players… or himself. The player opens up to France Football after receiving the award for the best French player of the 2022-2023 season.

“I don’t know what is lacking at PSG, it’s not really a question for me. We did what we could, that’s it. You should talk to the people who build the team, who organize the squad, who construct this club. For me, I just try to do my job to the best of my abilities. I scored around forty goals for my club (41), about ten for the national team (13). I was the best player, the top scorer for the fifth year in a row in Ligue 1,” he tells France Football.

Mbappé believes he is not a magician: “Unfortunately, I got injured before the first leg in the Champions League, and in the second leg, we were powerless. But in the group stage, I think I was the most decisive player. I could have performed better by my standards, but I couldn’t do magic. Even the other players gave their all. Sometimes, in football, you come up against what is called a glass ceiling. That’s why it’s not really a question for me, but rather for those above.”
