Vinicius Jr. (24 years old, 3 matches and 3 goals in this season’s Champions League) is expected to be crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner on Monday, and Marquinhos is already congratulating him.

Everyone knows it, and the congratulations are already pouring in. Though the voting is already closed, the Real Madrid winger strengthened his case with a stunning hat-trick in the 5-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday in the Champions League. For his fellow Brazilian, Marquinhos (30 years old, 3 matches in the Champions League this season), the title is all but certain for the former Flamengo player.

“Who will win the Ballon d’Or? It’s clear, it’s already in Vinicius’ hands, it’s his. It’s time for the Ballon d’Or to come back to Brazil,” the Paris Saint-Germain central defender told TNT Sports Brazil. If Vinicius secures the title on Monday, it will end a 17-year drought for the footballing nation, whose last winner was Kaká in 2007 — an eternity in football terms.

Neymar, another Brazilian and close friend of Vinicius, also voiced his support for the Real Madrid player as the deserving Ballon d’Or recipient.
