PSG’s Ambitious Project for Parc des Princes Renovation: Roof, Retractable Pitch, and More Seats

According to information from L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is considering an ambitious project to renovate Parc des Princes. The plans, developed by architects from Pierre Ferret and Populous, include several major elements:

1. **Retractable Roof and Pitch:** The project envisions the installation of a retractable roof and a retractable pitch, providing flexibility to adapt the stadium’s environment based on weather conditions or other events.

2. **Increased Capacity:** The capacity of Parc des Princes would be expanded to approximately 57,000 seats, compared to the current 47,000. This would also involve an increase in the number of VIP seats.

3. **Project Cost:** The entire renovation is estimated to cost around one billion euros, indicating the extent of PSG’s ambitions to modernize and enhance its iconic venue.

However, the realization of this project would require an agreement with the city of Paris, which currently owns Parc des Princes. Relations between the club and the municipality are strained, but negotiations could resume, partly due to challenges related to finding land for a new stadium and the complexities of the Stade de France dossier.

**Possibility of a 99-Year Lease:** The city of Paris has reportedly opened the door to restarting negotiations and is considering the possibility of granting a very long-term lease, potentially for 99 years. This could be perceived as a quasi-ownership arrangement for PSG, although the club’s management insists that the current situation is the fault of the city.

PSG is also exploring the option of acquiring the Stade de France in response to the city’s resistance to relinquishing ownership of Parc des Princes.
