PSG Stands Firm, Trophée des Champions to Take Place… at Parc des Princes
The Trophée des Champions will finally be played in Paris. PSG was unwilling to take any risks, especially with a complicated trip to Congo.
There’s no question of taking any risks to promote Ligue 1. Despite the applications from Kinshasa and Toulouse, the Professional Football League (LFP) will ultimately choose to organize the Trophée des Champions, pitting PSG, the French champion, against Toulouse, the winner of the French Cup, on January 3 at Parc des Princes.
Although Toulouse preferred to play at the Stadium, and Kinshasa proposed relocation to Africa with a hybrid pitch, the LFP has given preference to PSG, which insisted on playing at Parc des Princes.
Parisian leaders expressed concerns about the team’s recovery after a long plane journey and a potential temperature shock with France, thus ruling out the option of playing abroad.
« PSG has been quite firm on this matter with the LFP. The promoters of Kinshasa’s bid were informed on Friday that the match would not take place in their country. However, they are expected to submit a new proposal for the Trophée des Champions in 2024, which is scheduled to take place in early August, » reports Le Parisien.
