Paris Saint-Germain is in serious trouble in the Champions League: after their defeat on Wednesday, the club is currently ranked 25th and not qualified to continue in the competition.
It’s going to be tough! After a hard-fought victory against Girona (1-0 with an own goal in the last seconds), a loss to Arsenal (2-0), and a frustrating draw against PSV (1-1) two weeks ago, it was already expected that PSG would struggle to climb the group stage standings and hope to finish in the top 8, which would guarantee a spot in the Round of 16.
But with their loss to Atlético Madrid at the Parc des Princes (1-2) on Wednesday night, PSG dropped to 25th place in the overall standings, outside the top 24, which would end their European season. As things stand, PSG is eliminated from all European competition. They need to get back into the top 24 to qualify for the Round of 32, while the top 8, which would send them directly to the Round of 16, is now out of reach.
