Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is considering the construction of a new stadium with a capacity of 70,000 seats, following the refusal of the Paris City Hall to sell the Parc des Princes. The Parisian daily, Le Parisien, provides some insights.
As the possibility of PSG leaving the Parc des Princes grows more likely, club president Nasser al-Khelaïfi has given the city hall three months to decide; otherwise, the club will explore alternative options.
In the meantime, according to Le Parisien, PSG is exploring various possibilities to create an entertainment district where football and other activities can coexist, aiming to “provide a more sustainable and diversified source of income.”
Ideas such as a PSG museum and real estate projects around the stadium are being considered. The leadership’s clear goal is to have a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest technology.
For the location of the new stadium, information from L’Équipe suggests that a site in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, in the Yvelines region, is one of the possibilities. Approximately 20 minutes by car from the Parc des Princes, the site is well-connected via the A12 and A13 highways, the N12 road, and the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines train station, served by RER C, line N, line U, and TER.
However, the realization of this project depends on the approval of the Yvelines General Council, the owner of the land. PSG will need to obtain the council’s agreement to fulfill its ambition of building a new stadium.
