After a day of police custody, Christophe Galtier is facing increasing trouble in the case of alleged discrimination in Nice.

Christophe Galtier has been “referred to the public prosecutor’s office for his summons to the criminal court of Nice. The date has been set for December 15, 2023. He will be tried on charges of moral harassment and discrimination based on actual or presumed ethnicity, nationality, alleged race, or religion,” announced the prosecutor of Nice.

He had spent the day in police custody in Nice. However, no charges have been brought against his adopted son, who was also questioned.

The criminal court could sentence Christophe Galtier to a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of up to 45,000 euros, according to articles 225-1 and following, 222-33-2 and following of the Penal Code.

Regarding PSG, according to Laurent Fellous, a specialist lawyer in sports law, the club’s executives may reconsider their separation agreement, which is currently being negotiated. “Regarding a possible sanction in December, from the perspective of termination of employment, it is more complex. The employer can terminate the contract if a potential conviction would objectively disrupt the functioning of the company. Considering the image of PSG and the significant financial stakes, it could be an argument for them to negotiate a lower settlement amount with Christophe Galtier.”
