Neymar, the new forward for Al Hilal, has made a statement that is likely to stir reactions in France. According to him, the local championship in Saudi Arabia surpasses Ligue 1.

After critiquing his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar has now taken aim at Ligue 1. During a press conference, the former PSG player stated on Thursday that the Saudi Arabian championship, which is experiencing significant investments, could already be superior to Ligue 1.

“Football is the same there; the ball is round, just like everywhere else. Considering the big names that make up this (Saudi) league, it’s possible that this championship is better than Ligue 1. (…) They used to say that Ligue 1 was weak, but that’s where I suffered the most (laughs),” he admitted.

Neymar’s comments indicate his perspective on the relative strengths of the two leagues and his experiences within them.
