Mbappé Won’t Surpass Ronaldo’s Record, Says ex-French Coach

Kylian Mbappé, who scored a hat-trick against Gibraltar (14-0) on Saturday, reached an impressive career milestone of 300 goals at the age of 24, with 74 caps and 46 goals for the French national team.

However, the prospect of surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still active and has scored 865 goals, seems challenging, according to Rolland Courbis.

To match Ronaldo’s goal tally, Mbappé would need to score at least 50 goals per season until the age of 36. This becomes even more daunting considering that CR7 has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

“Ronaldo at the beginning, he wasn’t a goal-scorer, he’s someone who dribbles, accelerates, causes problems for all defenses. And then, we started counting his number of goals and his number of matches played. Mbappé started with the idea of breaking all records, but Ronaldo’s record is simply impossible to beat even for Mbappé,” remarked the RMC consultant.

Mbappé himself didn’t make it a specific goal. “The 300 goals? It takes a back seat; the team comes first. I always wanted to make history in my sport. Some have scored 800 or 850 goals; 300 is ridiculous,” Mbappé mentioned after the France-Gibraltar match. “Collectively, it has more value than individual records. It’s great; we had the goal of breaking this record. We had the seriousness throughout the match. We did it collectively,” he added.
