Luis Enrique Brushes Off Criticism, Stays Firm on PSG’s Style

After another away defeat for PSG in the UEFA Champions League, coach Luis Enrique is facing criticism, but the Spanish tactician remains steadfast in his approach.

Luis Enrique is resolute in his stance, insisting that PSG should dictate their style of play to other teams without adapting to the opponent’s tactics. In a press conference on Friday, he stated, “We are a team that never speculates, whether playing at home or away. Regardless of the stadium, we go to face our opponent and to attack. I’m not saying it’s the best thing to do, but it’s my idea, and I’m not going to change it. Honestly, I don’t find this topic useful.”

He emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent approach, saying, “It’s always nice to be at home. Sometimes, we are more daring. Of course, there’s a difference between playing at home or away, but the field has the same dimensions, so the attitude shouldn’t change. I don’t see why we would change. I believe that being a great team means playing in the same way at home and away. I think that’s what we’ve done; there hasn’t been a single away game where we haven’t been competitive. The idea won’t change as long as I’m here.”

Responding to criticism about the team’s performance, Enrique pointed out, “I think it was the same midfield at Parc des Princes as at San Siro, and we won 3-0. No one asked if they lacked experience. These are the same players, the same midfield. Sometimes, there are better performances than others, but I am very pleased with their performances and the level of my players.”
