Ligue 1 – Added Time will be as long as in the World Cup

Additional time up to 10 or 15 minutes will be introduced in Ligue 1: referees will change the calculation method for injury time.

Antony Gautier, French international referee and current director of French refereeing, discussed on the official Ligue 1 website the possibility of a significant increase in playing time starting from the next season.

IFAB (International Football Association Board) is considering a similar approach to what was adopted during the World Cup, with a more precise accounting of injury time. “What are the main instructions given to the referees for this season? Time lost after a goal celebration will be recovered in injury time. This is an important element that will have an impact on the duration of matches, as we have seen in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar or in the current Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

“So, will there be extended injury time? Everything will depend on the events that occur during the match. But when we saw 13 minutes of injury time in the Women’s World Cup match between France and Panama, similar scenarios are possible in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2,” Gautier added.
