Joao Neves joined PSG a few days ago, and the club has revealed his jersey number. It won’t be number 6.

Joao Neves is the successor to Marco Verratti, but not with the same number. The 19-year-old Portuguese midfielder has chosen a rather uncommon number: 87. He also wore this number at Benfica Lisbon and explained his choice in recent months.

“Why did I choose the number 87? I didn’t have many choices, I had a series of numbers available, and this one appealed to me the most,” Joao Neves said.

Jersey Tucked Into Shorts

The Portuguese player is also recognizable on the field because he is one of the few players who tucks his jersey into his shorts. “Tucking the jersey into the shorts was a rule imposed during training when I played for the CFT Algarve,” explained Joao Neves.

“There were always two rules to play: jersey tucked into the shorts and socks below the knee. Since then, I have followed this rule to the letter and got used to it. I don’t know if it’s more comfortable to wear my jersey untucked or not, but now I always play with my jersey tucked in. I’m comfortable that way, and it has become my trademark.”
