Ronald Araujo reflects on his red card against PSG—he still hasn’t fully moved on, even a year later.
During the 2023-2024 Champions League quarter-finals, FC Barcelona was eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain (3-2, 1-4). A key turning point in the second leg was Araujo’s 29th-minute red card for a foul on Bradley Barcola, leaving the Blaugrana with ten men and significantly weakening their chances of advancing.
In an interview with *Sport*, the Uruguayan defender admitted that the incident haunted him for a long time:
“At first, it stayed with me, especially for the rest of the season. But over time, I moved on—it’s in the past. There’s a new story to write. Great players are mentally strong and know how to overcome these situations, and I consider myself one of them. I won’t lie—after that, I wasn’t at my usual level in La Liga. But you have to keep going. I still have a lot to achieve, to build, and to give to this club.”
Despite the difficult experience, Araujo remains focused on moving forward and continuing his growth with Barcelona.
