The indictment of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), will not affect Qatar’s investments in France, despite circulating rumors.
Is Qatar ready to disengage from PSG? This rumor shook the football world on Thursday, following news of Al-Khelaïfi’s indictment for complicity in abuse of power in the Lagardère case.
However, after the rumors, came the official denial. This indictment will not impact Qatar’s investments in France, particularly those made through the sovereign wealth fund QIA, according to Le Parisien.
Rumors of Qatar potentially withdrawing from PSG and BeIN Sports circulated, but these allegations have been firmly rejected by Qatari authorities. They have reaffirmed their economic commitment to France and expressed full support for Al-Khelaïfi.
The case concerns an alleged attempt to influence a key vote by the Qatari sovereign fund, which was the majority shareholder of the Lagardère Group in 2018. QIA clarified that Al-Khelaïfi did not play a decisive role and that the fund’s decisions are made independently.
