Kylian Mbappé has never hidden his admiration for Ousmane Dembélé. As he returns to the French national team, the Real Madrid star reaffirmed his support for his former PSG teammate and weighed in on their potential rivalry for the Ballon d’Or.
Mbappé Stands by Dembélé Against Critics In an interview with Le Parisien, Mbappé defended Dembélé, who has often been criticized and mocked:
“I know how much he has been criticized, how much he has been mocked. But since we were 14, I have always been his biggest supporter. I’ve always said—even when he wasn’t scoring—that he was one of the best players in the world.”
Ballon d’Or Race: A Mystery for Mbappé
When asked about the current Ballon d’Or criteria, Mbappé expressed his uncertainty: “What makes a Ballon d’Or winner? Is Rodri a Ballon d’Or player for you? At first, I didn’t think so. I thought Vinicius would win, but in the end, it was Rodri.”
So, can Dembélé win the Ballon d’Or? Mbappé remained cautious: “Today, we don’t know what direction the Ballon d’Or is leaning toward, except that no one should be ruled out.”
With both Mbappé and Dembélé in contention this season, the battle for the coveted award could come down to the Champions League. PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are all still in the race, and lifting the trophy could tilt the scales in favor of one of the contenders.
