According to a report published on Tuesday by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ligue 1 referees are the lowest paid among the Big 5 European leagues.
The Italian newspaper states that a French referee officiating 20 matches per year earns €145,208 gross, including a match fee of €3,124. This figure is significantly lower than their counterparts in other leagues:
- Premier League: €159,708
- Serie A: €159,708
- Bundesliga: €194,000
- La Liga: €264,504
Spain leads the way with the highest referee salaries, while France lags behind, despite the increasing importance of referees in modern football.
