Loaned to Aston Villa this winter without a purchase option, Marco Asensio (29) has explained his departure from PSG—a simple reason: lack of game time.
Once a key figure for Luis Enrique last season, Asensio saw his role diminish this year, prompting him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
“Nothing really happened! The coach simply made other choices, and he picked his players,” Asensio told The Mirror. “It happened often throughout the season, and I decided I needed to play and wanted a change.”
“Emery Sees Me as a No. 10”
The Spanish international was convinced by Unai Emery, who aims to revive his career at Aston Villa.
“A key factor in my decision was my conversation with Unai. He told me he sees me as a No. 10. When I left Real Madrid, I felt that was the next step in my career, where I could feel more comfortable and progress further. So when we spoke, he considered me a No. 10. That was important to me,” Asensio explained, adding that his move is “not a step back but a great challenge.”
