Zinedine Zidane reportedly turned down the position of Algeria’s national team coach, eyeing a potential future role at Olympique de Marseille, according to Jérôme Rothen.

Following Algeria’s early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, the Algerian Football Federation allegedly approached Zinedine Zidane to replace Djamel Belmadi as the national team’s coach.

However, Zidane is said to have declined the offer. According to Jérôme Rothen, the former Real Madrid coach rejected the proposal because he aspires to take charge of Olympique de Marseille in the future.

“He is waiting for OM. I’m giving you the ‘bombazo,'” stated the former French international on RMC. “He’s not going to wait for the French national team for five years! Real Madrid, he’s already been there a second time, it’s over. He didn’t want to go to England, as confirmed by his friend Christophe Dugarry. So, Olympique de Marseille, he’s waiting for OM.”
