In partnership with IFAB, the organization that establishes the rules of football, FIFA is set to test a new experimental rule regarding the offside.

What is Arsène Wenger doing at FIFA? After expressing his desire for a World Cup every two years, he now aims to change the offside rule. The director of global football development at FIFA intends to eliminate marginal offside decisions. A new rule, already dubbed the “Wenger law,” will be tested in several countries.

Under this new rule, a player will only be considered offside if their entire body is behind the last defender at the moment the pass is played.

This rule, which will benefit attackers at the expense of defenders, will first be trialed in youth categories in Sweden. Could it eventually be implemented in professional football worldwide? Only time will tell.
