In an interview with L’Équipe, Stade Brestois sporting director Grégory Lorenzi revealed that the club attempted to sign the Swedish striker during his time at Coventry City in the Championship.
A Transfer Blocked by the Price Tag
“His agent told me I was the only French sporting director who contacted him. I was ready to offer between €4-5 million, but Coventry demanded €8 million,” Lorenzi admitted.
In the end, no agreement was reached, and Gyökeres remained in England’s second tier before breaking out at Sporting Portugal, where he has become one of Europe’s most lethal strikers. A major missed opportunity for Brest.
