In an interview with L’Equipe, Ousmane Dembélé addresses the criticisms surrounding his performance, particularly the lack of goals this season.

Dembele has yet to score a goal this season, but he has already provided three assists, demonstrating his value in the team. He evaluates his own performance at the beginning of the season, stating:

“My start with PSG? Average. I need to give a bit more. I know it will come because it’s a new club. As more matches unfold, I’ll get better… But I don’t judge my performances based on scoring a goal. You can score a goal and still have a bad match. You can not score and be very good. But in 2023, it’s the statistics that matter.”

Regarding his goal-scoring abilities, Dembélé is confident about his progress, and the criticism doesn’t bother him. He explains, “I sleep very well at night, and I always have confidence in myself”.

“Even if I miss something, I’ll try it again. As I said, it’s not just about scoring goals. But I’ll work on that. People often tell me that I use strength when I’m in front of the goal. I think it’s because I have less clarity because I start from a distance when trying to dribble past one or two players.”
